About me
Hi, I'm Sally and I have a love of open water (wild) swimming, the moors,
reorganising cupboards, trashy TV, my cat, road trips, sparklers, making quality memories with friends and family, and Yorkshire!
I have set up my own counselling business due to a huge passion for it, a sadness having seen many people who could be living a much more fulfilled and happy life had they had a bit of counselling, a frustration at the lack of access to it, and a determination to increase awareness of
people's emotional health needs.
We will discuss what my role and your role will look like in our first informal chat,
but basically, I'm a human that likes, and seems to have an above average ability
to help others help themselves, and I'd really love to help you.
What I can offer
I completed my Counselling degree in 2008 at York St John University.
I have since touched on several vocations, travelled, and learnt a few more life lessons
before working as a mental health nurse in the NHS in varying roles.
I am incredibly proud of my work in the NHS but now want
to work more closely with people to help them build, and see them through,
a more personalised process for recovery and change.
As an Integrative Counsellor* it is my belief that one size does not fit all and I will very much work with you as an individual and will draw upon the helpful perspectives, processes
and methods of other therapies including;
Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory, and Motivational Interviewing techniques.
I am also privileged to have received the training to support people through the Maastricht Interview process.
This is a structured questionnaire designed to assess the experience of
voice hearing/hearers and those who experience paranoia and related life events with the goal to understanding these experiences better.
Further to this I have created a tailored package in which I will support you in addressing a home/living style which is causing undue chaos, clutter, disorganisation and subsequent stress. This is a passion of mine and something I have personally always found great relief from undertaking personally and for others and have seen clear benefits to mental wellbeing, mood, productivity, health, relationships, reduced anxiety, and general feel of the home environment.
I also have a great passion and am a strong ally to those with neurodiversity. As a result I can offer input tailored to your individual needs to make therapies more accessible and neurodiverse friendly.
*Since completing my degree the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) have changed their criteria, which the degree met at the time, to be what they term an "Accredited Counsellor" which allows therapist to be on their register. They have been apologetic regarding this as this now means that I am unable to be on their register until I have completed further training. I do intend to do so at a later stage as, as a self employed therapist, this feels like all the boxes are then ticked.
However, this does not impact my ethical framework or suitability to practice but, I like to be open and clear regarding this from the start.
I am happy to answer any questions regarding this.

What I can not offer...
This will all be discussed in our first chat but just to make you aware that if I feel I am not the therapist for you, or vice versa, please don’t worry, sometimes we might not be the right fit, due to the nature of your goals or unexpected bariers.
Should this be the case I will make sure I support you to find the right services for you at that time.
Also, there are some situations which would not best be supported through counselling.
These can include:
Acute mental health difficulties or active crises where you may be a risk to yourself or others,
Those seeking trauma based therapy for deep set or historical trauma - these can respond better to EMDR or CBT therapies.
Legal, social care or ‘fitness to work’ processes.
I am not currently offering counselling to couples or those under the age of 18.
Please note, I will not be acting as a mental health nurse.
